Level 1B Product Information and Status


The Level 1B Code generates data products containing calibrated radiances for all 36 MODIS bands and reflectances for the reflective Solar bands (Bands 1 through 19 and 26). The MODIS Terra L1B Version 3.0 and higher software is considered validated.

Code and Lookup Table Status

Collection 5 has supplanted Collection 4.  Collection 4 processing has halted and the Level 1B products are not available.
Using the PGE02 version 5.0.6.34 LUT in MODAPS production, a Terra Level 1B data processing failure occurred on day 2007-09-17 at 19:35UT when the linearly-interpolated RVS_correction values for Band 8 fell below a hard-coded limit.  SeaWiFS production encountered the same problem starting on 2007-09-18 at 09:45UT. A code fix was implemented as version 5.0.38 and data production was resumed during the evening on 2007-09-20.

Instrument Performance

CAUTION! The sensor operational configuration, detector biases, and lookup table parameters are time-dependent quantities that have been changed to optimize sensor performance. More information on these factors that affect data quality is available by navigating to Aqua MODIS Instrument Performance History or Terra MODIS Instrument Performance History. Following the Terra MODIS recovery on March 28, 2002, MCST noticed minor instrument performance differences that may impact the quality of products that are sensitive to mirror-side differences.
